Overthinking & Underacting Is Costing You $$$
14 months ago, I struggled to make my 1st dollar writing online.
4 months ago, I hit my first $7k month.
Now, I pay all my bills from it.
What made the biggest difference?
I stopped over-thinking and under-acting.
Was it simple?
Hell yeah.
Was it easy?
Absolutely not.
You see my whole goal when I started writing online was to run a successful creator business.
But in my early days I kept overthinking every step.
This led to me over indexing on information from books, digital courses, LinkedIn...
And never taking action.
I felt like I needed the perfect:
•Plan
•Strategy
•Follower number
The scariest part about this?
Its why most creators don't see results.
Then they quit, wondering why they failed.
I told myself I couldn't be one of them.
So, I decided to take action.
Here's what I did:
The 3 Most Important Steps I Took
First:
I made 8 hours of sleep a non-negotiable.
Straight forward, common-sense stuff I know.
But this has actually had the biggest impact on my success.
And it only makes sense.
The higher quality rest you get the higher quality outputs you can give.
I rarely work over 5-6 hours a day now.
But get well over 8 hours "worth" of work done.
The best benefit of this though?
Mental clarity.
Once I got enough rest my brain fog went away.
With the newfound clarity, I stopped overthinking.
All I had to do was act.
So that's the first thing I did, optimize sleep.
Second:
I started to plan & review every day.
Before bed I would answer:
•What worked well today?
•What didn't work well today?
•How can I improve tomorrow?
Then finished with a brain dump.
Next, I would plan out my 3 main goals for the next day.
These goals were non-negotiable.
I'd write 1 for:
•Business
•Health/fitness
•Personal Life
Examples:
•Write my newsletter (Business)
•Hit legs at the gym (Fitness)
•Call my mom (Personal)
I doubled down on what worked from my daily reviews, ditched what didn’t, & refined what I could improve on day by day…
Then executed ruthlessly on my daily goals Every. Single. Day.
Third:
I re-invented myself.
I went into a Google doc and wrote out:
•My yearly goals
•Past achievements
•My personal creed
Then I defined in detail who I wanted to become now.
Down to my:
•Beliefs
•Values
•Daily habits
•Personality traits
•Daily habits to avoid
*The key here is to write all these out as if you already are that person, not becoming this person
I printed it all off and put them into a folder I read every morning.
Notice how simple this was?
None of it involved watching hours of the world's best Ted Talks.
Or reading a new book someone on LinkedIn told me to read (not hating on books but action always wins)
Or designing a perfect strategy.
It's the simple stuff that always has the biggest impact.
Reaching your goals and becoming fulfilled is on the other side of stopping your overthinking & underacting.
The stakes are high.
If you don’t, you’ll wake up at the same place in your life 5 years from now.
You’ll think back to reading this newsletter and think:
“Damn, he was right.”
Alright that’s it for this week.
I appreciate you being here my friend.
