“I’ve been watching you for 6 months”
A new client said this to me...
I know this sounds creepy…
And I was spooked a bit when he first said it.
But after I onboarded a new client, one of the first things he said to me was “I’ve been watching you on LinkedIn and following your content for over 6 months now”.
After the shock factor wore off and I understood what he meant…
I thought of how good a reminder this was for me and wanted to share it with you.
Sales cycles are longer than we usually think.
Yes of course, we’d all love inbound leads that ask, “Where do I pay?”.
Yes of course, we’d all love to send a DM and then an invoice right after.
But the reality is…
A lot of people have been on the tipping point of working with you for a while (if you’ve been consistently posting and doing outreach for long enough)
They’re just waiting for the right moment or when their problem is burning enough.
This is why it’s so crucial to always be posting content.
This is why you have to always be doing outreach.
I know it’s not ideal.
And I know you want quicker wins.
I get it.
I posted for months and sent 100’s of DMs with zero bites.
I thought maybe my niche was wrong. Maybe LinkedIn wasn’t 'my platform.'
But looking back… that was just the incubation period for me.
I didn’t fully understand…
Most people see you long before they trust you.
And trust is what shortens the sales cycle over time.
So yeah… It’s a slow burn at first.
But the compound effect is very real.
Because if you’re doing things on LinkedIn organically (without paid ads or engagement pods, etc)
You have to plant seeds.
Over time…
You’ll have a forest.
