Don’t Feel Like Writing Online Anymore? You’re Not Alone
22 months ago I made my first dollar online.
I was searching for copywriting gigs on Upwork (I do not miss those days but we all start somewhere right?) when someone responded to my proposal.
It was a beef jerky company based out of The United States.
The owner was looking for a welcome video script she could read for her website’s homepage.
She asked if we could hop on a call, so I gave her my number.
To be 100% honest with you I was nervous.
I had been studying copywriting for months at this point but now it was the real deal.
It was time to actually potentially land a client.
We hopped on a call and guess what?
It went great.
She was super friendly, eager to move forward, and told me her writing was absolute crap. Which made me feel a lot better because I knew mine couldn’t be worse than hers (even as a newbie copywriter).
So, I sent her the invoice and she hit it.
The feeling when she paid was unforgettable.
I was over the moon with no exaggeration.
I danced around my room fist pumping like Tiger Woods when he hits a clutch putt.
The rush was intense and very real…
But that’s not the point of this story.
It’s about the months leading up to it.
They were really tough.
They were full of:
🔹Self-doubt
🔹Uncertainty
🔹Second guessing
And wondering if online business was actually going to work for me.
If I ever was going to land a client. And if I could keep landing clients after.
All this doubt made me want to quit. I didn’t feel like writing online anymore…
I could hear the tone of my family’s voice when I told them what I was doing.
You could tell they thought I’d be back to a full time “regular” job in a couple of months.
But I didn’t quit.
I realized the negative thoughts and emotions were actually pushing me. Stretching me.
They were trying to convince me to take the easy way out. To avoid growth. To avoid the pain and discomfort of potentially failing.
The moment this clicked for me, I made a deal with myself that giving up wasn’t an option.
I was not going to fail, especially from throwing in the towel.
Fast forward to today: I’m not a millionaire.
Hell, I don’t even make a quarter of that a year (yet)
But I’m doing pretty damn good all things considered.
And definitely making more money than I possibly would be if I quit online business.
I’m writing you this newsletter to say this:
There’s a lot of people online bragging about how much money they make.
Or how they made $10K in their first month online. Or how they easily scaled their writing business to $50K MRR.
Don’t compare yourself to them.
They’re either straight up lying, or they had a lot more business background before they brought it online.
And I guarantee they’re leaving out all the bad parts and only showing you the highlights.
I know that the same struggles I had early in my journey...
Every entrepreneur has had.
It comes with the territory.
The successful ones are the people who push through despite all the fear, doubt, and uncertainty.
My advice to you is to focus on your own growth. Your own journey.
And being a tad bit better than you were last week. That’s it.
Nothing more nothing less.
It’s impossible to lose this way.
Darion.
P.S. Do you have an offer you’re trying to sell but you’re struggling to get leads for it?
And you don’t have the funnel in place to generate them regularly?
If so, I put together a short video training on how I get consistent leads for my clients.
